Treasure Valley Community College (TVCC), located in Ontario, Oregon, has announced a significant expansion of its Western Treasure Valley Academic Merit Tuition Waiver. This initiative, previously available only to students from eastern Oregon and western Idaho, is now open to high school seniors across the United States. The waiver is aimed at students who have maintained an unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher throughout their high school years.
Recognizing Academic Excellence
TVCC President Dana M. Young emphasized the college’s commitment to rewarding academic success. “The top-performing students deserve to be rewarded for the years of work they’ve invested in their studies, and we want to invest in those students in turn,” Young stated in a news release. This expansion is part of the college’s strategy to attract academically inclined students by alleviating some of the financial burdens associated with higher education.
Despite the majority of its students traditionally coming from Oregon and Idaho, TVCC aims to broaden its reach and provide more students with access to higher education opportunities. The waiver reduces tuition costs by approximately 30%, though the exact savings can vary depending on the student’s major and other expenses.
Application and Future Goals
In the 2025-26 academic year, 21 students applied for the waiver. For the upcoming school year, TVCC has already received 26 applications and aims to surpass 30. The college’s annual budget supports this waiver program, underscoring its commitment to fostering educational growth.
High school seniors interested in applying for the waiver for the 2026-27 academic year must submit their applications by June 30. This expansion reflects TVCC’s dedication to making higher education more accessible to students nationwide.
