Transit Workers, Volunteers Help Move Soccer Fans

Aubra Baggett, a volunteer from McKinney, was directing fans from the Trinity Railway Express to charter buses for their trek to Dallas Stadium for the opening match in Arlington between the Netherlands and Japan.

Earlier in the morning, volunteers appeared to outnumber transit riders at Fort Worth Central Station as they arrived to ensure a smooth operation.

Regional Mobility Plan

Passengers easily boarded Trinity Railway Express trains where some cars had plenty of empty seats for a mid-morning departure to the rail station south of DFW International Airport. Other soccer fans boarded charter buses headed directly to Arlington.

Ted Zimmerman, Trinity Metro’s vice president of marketing and communications, said a large number of volunteers were on hand to ensure guests “can have an exceptional visit to Fort Worth.”

Karla Windsor, senior program manager for the Arlington-based North Central Texas Council of Governments, said the regional mobility plan was working, with trains paced well to manage the flow of passengers.
