Tragic Helicopter Crash Claims Life of Newlywed Pilot in Georgia

The joyous occasion of Dave Fiji and Jesni’s wedding in Georgia turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when the helicopter carrying the newlyweds crashed shortly after takeoff. Dave, a 25-year-old airline pilot, had meticulously planned every detail of their special day, including a helicopter sendoff from The Revere, a venue near the North Georgia mountains.

A Day of Celebration

Dave and Jesni’s wedding was a celebration of love and faith, attended by their close-knit family and friends. The couple, who met as teenagers in their church’s youth program, exchanged vows amidst a setting adorned with pink and white flowers. Dave’s family, deeply rooted in Christian faith, gathered to pray for clear skies, and their prayers seemed answered as the ceremony proceeded without a hitch.

However, as the celebration wound down, storm clouds began to gather. Despite the weather, Dave and Jesni decided to proceed with their planned helicopter departure. The couple boarded the Robinson R66 helicopter, piloted by a hired professional, with hopes of a memorable sendoff.

The Tragic Accident

As the helicopter took off, visibility was low due to fog, and the pilot attempted to gain altitude for a clearer view. Tragically, the helicopter crashed over remote woods just minutes into the flight. Jesni survived the crash, waking up hours later in her wedding dress with Dave lying on her chest, having lost his life in the accident.

The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and first responders arrived at the crash site, finding Jesni among the wreckage. She was hospitalized with minor injuries, while Dave and the helicopter pilot were confirmed deceased. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

A Life Remembered

Dave’s family, overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, remembers him as a man of faith and intention. His father, Fiji George, attributes the widespread resonance of Dave’s story to the exemplary life he lived. Dave’s mother, Pheba, hopes that his story will inspire others to live with purpose and chase their dreams.

The tragedy has touched many, from the local community in Georgia to Dave’s family’s roots in Kerala, India. A service at Praise Community Church, complete with an overflow room and livestream, was held to honor Dave’s life and legacy.
