The City of Torrington is under a Local State of Emergency, according to the city, after powerful storms brought down trees and powerlines on July Fourth.
Emergency Response
Torrington Mayor Molly Spino said the State of Emergency is in effect now and remains in effect until she terminates it. The mayor said all emergency services personnel, public works crews and other essential city staff have been activated and additional resources have been requested through the state.
Residents are urged to shelter in place and should avoid all unnecessary travel. Numerous roads are closed and hazardous conditions remain in Torrington, the mayor added.
Crews are working to address immediate life safety concerns and are trying to make affected areas safe. The mayor said once emergency response operations have established safe conditions, the utility companies will be able to begin power restoration.
