Toronto Tempo Sets WNBA Record with Free Throws in Win Over Seattle Storm

The Toronto Tempo achieved a remarkable feat in their recent game against the Seattle Storm, setting a WNBA record by making their first 31 free throws. This impressive performance contributed to their 93-72 victory on Saturday. Marina Mabrey led the charge with 18 points, while rookie Kiki Rice added 17 points, 13 of which came in the second half, along with a season-high four steals.

Brittney Sykes, who previously played for the Storm, scored 15 points against her former team. Rookie Laura Juskaite also made a significant impact, scoring 14 points, including a career-high four 3-pointers. Maria Conde contributed 13 points, marking her second consecutive game scoring in double figures for the Tempo, who now hold a 5-4 record.

Despite a strong effort from the Seattle Storm, who were led by Natisha Hiedeman with 18 points and Jordan Horston with a season-high 15 points, they struggled with turnovers and three-point shooting. The Storm hit only 7 of 27 attempts from beyond the arc and attempted just eight free throws, making seven.

Dominique Malonga remained sidelined for the Storm due to concussion protocol, missing her sixth consecutive game. The Storm, now 3-5, have shown a pattern of success when shooting 38% or better from three-point range, but have yet to win when shooting 37% or worse.

Upcoming Games

The Seattle Storm will face the Dallas team on Monday, while the Toronto Tempo will visit New York on Wednesday, looking to build on their recent success.
