A tornado tore through parts of Grayson County on Tuesday afternoon, damaging about 14 properties and leaving families shaken. Monica Braun said she watched in horror as powerful winds swept away items from her front porch in the area of Wax, Kentucky.
Inside the home, Braun said the storm was terrifying. “I thought I was gonna die. Really, my whole life played before my eyes,” she said. “I’m a cancer survivor. Four years ago I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and I thought, is this the way? I fight through that, and this is the way I go?”
Damage and Aftermath
According to the Grayson County Emergency Management director, about 14 properties were damaged. Some homes were torn apart, with debris and personal belongings scattered across yards. Monica’s husband, Brandon Braun, said the destruction was unlike anything he had ever seen.
Despite the damage and loss, the family said they are focused on what matters most: each other. “Just her being OK and everybody being OK,” Brandon said. “It’s just huge. It’s amazing.” Officials said at least two people were hospitalized — one with severe injuries and the other with minor injuries.
