Republican Senate candidates should campaign against Democrats who have blocked the SAVE Act in nearly half a dozen votes on the Senate floor, Republican Majority Leader John Thune said. Thune stated that provisions in the act are supported by 80 percent to 85 percent of voters. One of those voters is President Donald Trump, who has pressured Senate Republicans for its passage.
SAVE Act Provisions
The full measure includes five provisions, including three related to voting: a government photo ID to vote, proof of citizenship when people register to vote, and the elimination of mail-in ballots except for voters who are ill, disabled, traveling, or in the military. Republican activists have also rallied around the SAVE Act.
