Thrive International to Close Spokane Campus, Transition Residents to Stable Housing

Spokane, Wash. — The court‑appointed receiver for Thrive International confirmed that both the Spokane and Tacoma campuses will cease operations and be dissolved by the end of 2026. Receiver Shelly Crocker said the priority remains ensuring every resident is transitioned to safe, stable housing with the care and dignity they deserve.

Receiver’s Plan for an Orderly Wind‑Down

In a statement, Crocker explained that, subject to court approval, Thrive International’s activities are expected to conclude by the close of the current calendar year. Limited funds will be distributed to creditors under a court‑supervised process, and administrative, financial, and legal documentation related to the receivership will likely continue into early 2027 to guarantee a compliant wind‑down.

Background on Thrive International’s Service

Since 2022, Thrive International has provided transitional housing for thousands of refugees and immigrants in downtown Spokane, offering a bridge to permanent residence and community integration. The nonprofit’s mission has centered on helping vulnerable newcomers find stability and a sense of belonging.

Legal Dispute Leads to Receiver Appointment

The receiver was appointed after a months‑long legal battle between Thrive International and the owner of the Spokane facility. The dispute prompted the court to intervene and place Crocker in charge of evaluating the nonprofit’s future.

Executive Director’s Response

In October, executive director Mark Finney indicated that the Spokane campus would be closed and that the immigrants and refugees would be relocated. NonStop Local has reached out to Finney for comment.

Community Impact and Next Steps

While the closure marks the end of Thrive’s direct presence in Spokane, Crocker emphasized gratitude to staff, volunteers, donors, and board members whose dedication allowed the organization to serve many people facing vulnerability and uncertainty over the years. The receiver’s focus on a dignified transition aims to minimize disruption for residents and preserve the supportive environment they have come to rely on.

What Residents Can Expect

Residents currently housed at the downtown facility can anticipate assistance in finding alternative housing options. The receiver’s team will work with local service providers and community partners to facilitate moves and ensure that basic needs are met throughout the transition period.

Looking Ahead

As the sign on the downtown building now reads “For Sale,” the future of the property remains uncertain. However, the orderly dissolution process outlined by the receiver seeks to protect creditors, honor commitments to residents, and uphold the nonprofit’s legacy of service to the refugee community in Spokane.
