WINKLER COUNTY, Texas – On the early morning of Thursday, Nov. 5, deputies from the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office and the Kermit Police Department arrested a 24‑year‑old man after a standoff inside a recreational vehicle (RV) on Van Street.
Background and initial contact
The incident began when a sheriff’s sergeant was conducting a follow‑up visit with a family‑violence victim who was living in the RV. The victim reported that the suspect, identified as Miguel Medrano, had returned to the vehicle and entered the bedroom.
Deputies ordered Medrano to leave the RV and comply with their commands. He refused, prompting the sergeant to request additional resources.
Escalation and resolution
Additional units from the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office and the Kermit Police Department arrived to secure a perimeter around the RV. Deputies issued multiple verbal commands and deployed chemical agents in an effort to gain compliance.
When the suspect still refused, deputies entered the RV and discovered Medrano concealed in a compartment beneath the bed. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Charges
Medrano now faces a charge of assault with a felony‑impeding breath or circulation offense, classified as a third‑degree felony. The arrest follows an active felony warrant that had been issued against him prior to the standoff.

The swift response by local law‑enforcement agencies underscores the commitment of Winkler County officials to protect victims of family violence and maintain public safety. Residents of the area expressed relief that the situation was resolved peacefully and without injury.
