Weeks after a violent brawl outside Lawrence High School left three people injured, the Essex County District Attorney’s Office announced that three local teenagers have been charged.
Charges and court appearances
Jesus Emmanuel Garcia Acosta, a 19‑year‑old Lawrence resident, appeared in Essex County Superior Court and faces three counts of armed assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, as well as charges for carrying a firearm without a license and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.
Two additional suspects, a 17‑year‑old and a 16‑year‑old, were indicted as youthful offenders in Lawrence Juvenile Court. They are charged with the same offenses as Garcia Acosta. NBC10 Boston is withholding their names because of their ages.
Legal status
All three defendants entered not‑guilty pleas and were ordered held without bail pending dangerousness hearings. The two minors are scheduled to return to court on Sept. 29, while Garcia Acosta’s hearing is set for Oct. 1.
Incident background
The shooting occurred just after 3 p.m. on Aug. 31 near the high school. Cell‑phone video captured a large crowd and the sound of gunfire as people fled the scene. The investigation led to the recent arrests and charges.
The district attorney’s office emphasized that the charges reflect the seriousness of the alleged offenses and the need to protect public safety.
