The Farm Bar at Stovehouse Grows Its Own Cocktail Menu

The Farm Bar at Stovehouse occupies a converted industrial space on Governor’s Drive that somehow manages to feel like a working farmstead without leaning into the aesthetic so hard it becomes a joke.

You walk in and the first thing you notice is the bar itself — long, wood-topped, stocked with spirits you actually recognize alongside a few you’ll need to ask about. The menu changes with the season, which is not a marketing claim here. The kitchen and bar program are genuinely tied to what’s coming out of local farms and the on-site garden beds visible through the windows on the east side of the building. In summer that means tomato-forward cocktails and corn-based dishes that land with actual sweetness. In fall, expect squash, root vegetables, and syrups made from whatever fruit is surplus.

The cocktail list runs about ten drinks, priced between $11 and $15. Order the one with the shrub of the season — they rotate it, and whoever is making it knows what they’re doing with acid and sweetness. If you’re not a cocktail person, the draft beer selection skews local and stays short, which is the right call. A long tap list here would feel like padding.

Food is the real reason to plan around this place. The menu is small — maybe eight to twelve dishes depending on the night — and it shifts enough that regulars come back to see what’s changed. A recent visit turned up a roasted beet salad with whipped goat cheese that was better than it had any right to be, and a pork chop with stone-ground grits that justified the $28 price without needing to explain itself. Portions are honest. You’ll leave full without feeling like you’ve been managed through a tasting menu.

Service tends toward the attentive side without becoming hovering. The staff knows the menu well enough to answer actual questions about sourcing, which matters when you’re paying this kind of money for vegetables. If you ask where the greens are from, you’ll get a real answer, not a shrug.

The space fills up on weekend evenings, particularly between 6:30 and 8:30. Reservations are worth making for Friday and Saturday. Midweek you can usually walk in and find a seat at the bar or a two-top without much trouble. The patio, when weather allows, is worth requesting — the garden is more interesting to sit next to than most restaurant patios in this city.

Parking is the one friction point. The Stovehouse lot fills fast on busy nights, and street parking on Governor’s Drive can mean a few minutes of walking. It’s not a crisis, but plan accordingly if you’re running late.

The Farm sits in a city that has plenty of restaurants calling themselves farm-to-table without doing the work. This one earns the label by keeping the menu tight enough that nothing on it could be sourced from a broadline distributor without you noticing. That discipline is rarer than it should be, and it’s what makes a meal here feel like something you actually chose rather than something that just happened to you.
