Madison’s vibrant Hilldale district is set to add another culinary destination when Thai Nimman opens its doors in 2027. The new restaurant is the latest venture from the team behind the popular Thai Basil, located nearby at 3519 University Avenue.
Local entrepreneurs bring Thai flavors to Hilldale
Husband‑and‑wife partners Krittaphol “Kris” Poticharoen and Tharika “Gamzy” Poticharoen announced the project Thursday, explaining that the name “Thai Nimman” honors Nimmanhaemin Road in Chiang Mai, Thailand – a city celebrated for its food and culture. “Nimman represents energy, food, creativity and people coming together,” the Poticharoens said. “Hilldale gives us that same feeling here in Madison. We cannot imagine a more fitting home for this new concept.”
The restaurant will occupy the former Dumpling Haus space, situated between FreshFin and Smile Doctors. Dumpling Haus closed on May 30 after its owners retired, leaving a prime location ready for a fresh concept.
Menu highlights and dining options
Thai Nimman will feature experienced chefs from Thailand who will craft signature dishes such as Pad Thai, Golden Mango Seafood Curry, and Yentafo Hot Pot. Patrons can choose to dine in, order takeout, or enjoy drinks at a full‑service bar.
Thai Basil will continue operating at its current location, ensuring that the beloved existing venue remains available while the new restaurant expands the city’s Thai dining scene.
Impact on the local economy
The opening adds to Madison’s growing restaurant landscape, creating new jobs and offering residents additional dining choices. By repurposing an existing commercial space, the project supports sustainable development within Hilldale.
Local officials have expressed support for the addition, noting that new eateries contribute to the district’s vitality and attract visitors from across Dane County.
What’s next?
While an exact opening date has not been set, the owners anticipate welcoming guests sometime in 2027. Interested diners can look forward to a menu that blends traditional Thai flavors with the welcoming atmosphere of Hilldale.
