Texas Tech’s football stadium, previously known as Jones AT&T Stadium, has been renamed Galaxy Stadium in a new 15-year deal. The stadium, which was built in 1947, has undergone several name changes over the years, including Jones SBC Stadium and Jones AT&T Stadium.
History of the Stadium
The stadium was originally named Jones Stadium, after Clifford B. Jones, the university’s third president. In 2000, it was renamed Jones SBC Stadium after SBC Communications, and later renamed Jones AT&T Stadium in 2006 after SBC changed to AT&T.
With the end of AT&T’s contract, Texas Tech looked for a new sponsor to have the honor of appearing in the stadium’s official name. Galaxy, a global leader in data center infrastructure, decided to partner with Texas Tech to have the football stadium named after them.
Partnership Details
The partnership between Texas Tech and Galaxy will last 15 years, and will also provide NIL (name, image, likeness) opportunities for Red Raider athletes. The deal is expected to bring economic benefits to the university and the local community.
The 2026 football season will see the Red Raiders hosting Abilene Christian in Galaxy Stadium for the first time on September 5th.
