Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico voted in five elections using his parents’ address after buying a home nearby, according to a report by The Texas Tribune and ProPublica.
Voter Registration Under Scrutiny
Talarico, a state representative from Austin, registered at his parents’ address in November 2021 after moving into the Texas House district he now represents. He bought a north Austin home in June 2022 but did not update his voter registration until September 2024.
Talarico’s campaign declined to answer questions about his residency, citing threats against him and his family. Texas requires voters to register where they live, but courts have said residency depends on multiple factors. Violations also require proof that a voter knowingly or intentionally broke the law.
Talarico’s opponent, Ken Paxton, has also faced questions about his voter registration. Paxton’s campaign accused Talarico of election fraud, while records provided by Talarico’s campaign appear to show he met the residency requirement to run for the House in 2022.
