Texas Roadhouse in Reno to host fundraiser for Project Bear Hugs after Hawk Fire

Reno residents can support disaster‑relief efforts while enjoying a night out at Texas Roadhouse. On Monday, September 14, the restaurant at 150 Damonte Ranch Parkway will set aside 10% of its total sales from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. for Project Bear Hugs, a nonprofit that assists those affected by the Hawk Fire.

Why the fundraiser matters

The Hawk Fire, which swept through parts of Washoe County last month, destroyed more than 47 homes and left dozens of families, seniors and pets without shelter or basic necessities. One Texas Roadhouse employee even lost their home in the blaze, underscoring the personal impact on the community.

Project Bear Hugs was founded to fill gaps in disaster response that government agencies often cannot meet. The organization provides “Comfort in Chaos” kits, a 24‑hour HopeLine for emotional support, and hands‑on disaster‑preparedness education. Its goal is simple: no one should have to face hardship alone.

How donations will be used

All contributions from the fundraiser will go directly to Project Bear Hugs’ programs. The “Comfort in Chaos” kits contain essential items such as water, non‑perishable food, first‑aid supplies, and pet care items, ensuring families can stabilize their situation immediately after a disaster. The HopeLine offers counseling and crisis‑intervention services, while the organization’s education workshops teach residents how to create family emergency plans, secure important documents, and build resilient homes.

By supporting the fundraiser, diners help expand these services at a time when the need is greatest. The organization has already distributed dozens of kits to Hawk Fire survivors and plans to increase outreach as more families begin the rebuilding process.

Community response

Local leaders have praised the partnership. Reno Mayor Barbara Hunter said, “When businesses step up to help neighbors in crisis, we see the true spirit of our city. Texas Roadhouse’s generosity will make a real difference for families still reeling from the fire.”

Project Bear Hugs director Sarah Miller added, “We are grateful for the support of Texas Roadhouse and the Reno community. Every dollar helps us reach more households, seniors and pets who need a hand up after this tragedy.”

Plan your visit

Patrons are encouraged to arrive early, as the restaurant expects a strong turnout. In addition to the charitable contribution, Texas Roadhouse will feature a special menu with fire‑inspired dishes, and a portion of the proceeds from select items will also benefit the cause.

For those unable to attend in person, Project Bear Hugs accepts online donations through its website, and the organization will match any additional contributions made on September 14.

Looking ahead

The Hawk Fire highlighted the importance of community‑driven disaster preparedness. Project Bear Hugs continues to work with local schools, churches and civic groups to promote safety education, ensuring residents are better equipped for future emergencies.

By combining a popular local dining spot with a clear, mission‑focused nonprofit, the fundraiser exemplifies how businesses and charities can collaborate to strengthen families, uphold community values, and foster resilience in the face of adversity.
