Good Good Golf removes CEO and President after controversial ad

Good Good Golf, the fast‑growing golf and lifestyle brand that began as a YouTube channel in 2020, announced a major leadership change on Wednesday. Chief executive officer Matt Kendrick and president Joe Flannery were both terminated after the company faced a public outcry over a newly released advertisement.

Ad sparks backlash and corporate fallout

The controversy began on August 21 when Good Good released a video promoting a co‑branded driver with Callaway. In the clip, co‑founder Garrett Clark pushes fellow Good Good personality Alexis Miestowski to the ground as she reaches for the club, then declares, “Do not touch my new driver.” Viewers condemned the scene as an act of violence against a woman, and the response quickly turned hostile.

Callaway issued multiple apologies and ultimately severed its partnership with Good Good. In retaliation, Kendrick criticized Callaway on social media, further inflaming the situation.

Corporate repercussions

The backlash led to several immediate consequences for Good Good Golf. The brand lost its title‑sponsor role for a PGA Tour event scheduled for mid‑November in Austin, Texas. The Golf Channel canceled a planned reboot of the “Big Break” series that would have been produced with Good Good, and major retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy pulled the company’s products from their shelves.

Earlier in the week, Good Good’s vice president of brand and marketing, Jeffrey Lefkovits, was also dismissed.

Leadership transition

Following the departures, Good Good’s head of finance and operations, Alex Puchala, sent a memo to staff acknowledging the difficulty of the day while praising Kendrick’s contributions. Puchala announced that board member and investor Nahid Giga would serve as interim chief executive officer.

“We’re encouraged by the continued support of the Good Good community, and we remain focused on moving forward and building the next chapter of the company,” Puchala wrote.

Impact on the golf community

Good Good Golf has cultivated a passionate following, turning a small group of friends playing golf into a global community of enthusiasts. The recent turmoil underscores the delicate balance brands must maintain between edgy marketing and the expectations of a broad, family‑oriented audience.

Industry observers note that the incident serves as a cautionary tale for emerging sports‑related businesses that rely heavily on social media influence. While the brand’s future remains uncertain, the company’s commitment to its community suggests it will seek to rebuild trust and continue expanding its reach in the golf world.
