A principal in Fort Worth, Texas, was reassigned after her social media posts about Shariah law sparked an investigation. Shayma Alzubi, who was named principal of Western Hills High School in May, was reassigned to a new position after district officials began investigating her prior social media posts.

Investigation Findings

According to court documents, the district’s Office of Professional Standards evaluated Alzubi’s social media posts and did not substantiate that they violated district policy or state law. The investigation did confirm threats of physical violence against Alzubi, Western Hills High School staff, and other district officials after publicity surrounding her social media posts.

The district filed a motion seeking to dismiss Alzubi’s lawsuit, arguing that safety concerns were the reason for her reassignment. In a reply to the district’s objection, attorneys for Alzubi said that the district could have taken additional safety measures instead of reassigning her to an office role.

Alzubi was offered a principal program administrator position, which she called a ‘made-up job that no one in the district has,’ in court filings. Alzubi did not accept the position. The district has named Lucio Rodriguez as interim principal of Western Hills.
