Texas Longhorns stay unbeaten with 30-6 win over UTSA as SEC debut looms

In Austin on Saturday night, the top‑ranked Texas Longhorns secured a 30-6 victory over the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), extending their perfect start to the season to 3‑0. The win came thanks to an early burst of offense from freshman quarterback Arch Manning and a dominant defensive performance that limited the Roadrunners to just 143 total yards.

Early offensive spark

Arch Manning opened the game with a bang, connecting on two touchdown passes in the first quarter. His first score came when wide receiver Cam Coleman hauled in a pass after a Longhorn interception by Rasheem Biles on the opening play. Coleman added a second touchdown on a leaping catch in the corner of the end zone, giving Texas a 17‑3 lead early in the second quarter.

Manning finished with 164 passing yards on 17 of 33 attempts. He absorbed multiple hard hits from UTSA defenders and left the game midway through the fourth quarter after a violent collision knocked his helmet off.

Defensive dominance

The Longhorn defense continued the strong play that helped Texas shut out Ohio State earlier in the season. Texas held UTSA to just 143 total yards and forced the Roadrunners out of the end zone entirely. The defense’s ability to limit big plays kept the game comfortably in Texas’ control.

Key contributions

Special teams added three field goals from kicker Gianni Spetic, extending the lead to 23‑6 heading into the fourth quarter. Freshman running back Derrick Cooper capped the scoring with his first career touchdown on a short run with under nine minutes left.

Looking ahead

With the win, Texas remains unbeaten and prepares for its first SEC matchup next week in Knoxville against No. 15 Tennessee. The Volunteers, who beat Kennesaw State 42‑9, will present a new level of competition as the Longhorns begin conference play.

UTSA will host Colorado State the following Saturday, while Texas looks to build on its early success and continue its push for a national championship.
