A giraffe that went missing from a Texas ranch about a week and a half ago is still missing, and the ranch is offering a sizable reward for information leading to Gracie’s capture and safe return. Gracie disappeared from Cedar Hollow Ranch and was last seen about five days ago on a game camera roaming in an area west of Leakey, a small city about 100 miles northwest of San Antonio.
Search Efforts
The Real County Sheriff’s Office, which is leading the search, confirmed to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth that the search for the giraffe was ongoing. The giraffe’s owner, Vic Jones, says Gracie is roaming in an area made up of private ranches and that she has only made it about 3 miles away from where she originally escaped.
Jones said he has sent up helicopters to look for Gracie. The ranch offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to Gracie’s capture and safe return. Gracie vanished after feeding on a rocky hillside where the ranch’s other giraffes don’t typically frequent, Jones told NBC DFW.
Gracie wandered to an unfenced area on the other side of an 8-foot-tall gate and escaped the ranch, Jones said. Anyone with information about Gracie’s location can contact Vic Jones at 830-279-5822 or the Real County Sheriff’s Office at 830-232-5201.
