Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Tuesday that a statewide donation of over 7 million eggs will be distributed to food‑bank partners, providing a direct boost to families struggling to afford basic groceries.

The egg donation stems from antitrust settlements reached in June with three of the nation’s largest egg producers—Cal‑Maine Foods, Centrum/Versova, and Hickman’s Egg Ranch. The settlements resolve claims brought by the Trump administration’s Department of Justice and a coalition of state attorneys general that the companies conspired to inflate egg prices from 2022 through 2025.
Under the agreements, the producers will donate the eggs and collectively pay $3.3 million to participating states. The donation will be coordinated with Feeding Texas, the state’s largest hunger‑relief organization.
Distribution plan
Seventeen food banks across the Lone Star State are slated to receive the eggs. The Houston Food Bank will receive the largest allocation—1,544,400 eggs—followed by the North Texas Food Bank in Plano and the Tarrant Area Food Bank in Fort Worth, each slated for 842,400 eggs. Additional allocations will go to food banks in Austin, San Antonio, Tyler, Corpus Christi, El Paso, Laredo, Odessa, Pharr, Beaumont, Amarillo, Lubbock, Victoria, Abilene and Wichita Falls.
While the exact timing of distribution to individual Texans remains unclear, the partnership aims to get the cartons into the hands of families as quickly as possible. Eligibility requirements may vary by location, and each food bank will set its own guidelines.

“After securing 7 million eggs for the people of Texas, I am excited to announce that Texans will now have an opportunity to receive cartons of free eggs in communities across the state,” Paxton said. “I will continue to help our families put food on the table and do everything within my power to lower prices and help Texans who are struggling to make ends meet.”
