FAIRFAX, Va. – A tragic traffic accident claimed the life of a 13-year‑old middle‑school student on Wednesday afternoon. Police responded to reports of a crash involving a juvenile cyclist and a large truck in the 3900 block of Pickett Road at approximately 2:32 p.m.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, the truck was exiting a shopping center when it collided with the child riding a bicycle. The vehicle of interest and its driver were located nearby shortly after the incident.

Emergency responders treated the minor for life‑threatening injuries, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fairfax County School officials confirmed the victim was a middle‑school student.
