A man wanted on felony charges has been arrested after a pursuit that ended when troopers used a PIT maneuver to bring the car to a stop in Texarkana, Texas.

Police received a tip Wednesday afternoon that Dakota Arnold, 28, was at the Walmart on New Boston Road. Officers knew Arnold had a felony warrant, so they attempted to stop him as he backed out of a store parking lot.

However, Arnold allegedly immediately took off, ramming a TTPD patrol car as he fled. The collision knocked out one of the tires on Arnold’s vehicle, but he kept going west on New Boston Road with officers pursuing him.

The pursuit continued onto Farm to Market 2148, U.S. Highway 67 and eventually Farm to Market 991. By then, officers from several other agencies were assisting in the pursuit. Texas DPS troopers ultimately performed a PIT maneuver on FM 991, bringing the pursuit to an end. Arnold surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

Officers also learned that before they tried to stop him in the parking lot, Arnold and his passenger, 59-year-old Deborah Walter, had allegedly been trying to steal from the store. Arnold allegedly attempted to walk out with about $585 worth of merchandise.

After the pursuit ended and Arnold was taken into custody, officers searched his vehicle and found methamphetamine inside, TTPD said. Arnold was arrested on charges of evading detention in a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, theft of property and his outstanding felony warrant. Walter was arrested for theft of property.
