Thursday saw the final round of testimony in the high‑profile murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, a 36‑year‑old mother from Duxbury, Massachusetts. The prosecution and defense presented expert witnesses as the jury prepares for closing arguments scheduled for Friday.
Prosecution’s final expert
Dr. Gregory Saathoff, a professor of emergency medicine who also consults for the FBI’s behavioral analysis unit, returned to the stand as the prosecution’s last rebuttal witness. He testified that Clancy should be held criminally responsible, pointing to a phone call she placed to her husband on the night of the children’s deaths and noting that she did not report any distress to him.
Dr. Saathoff emphasized that Clancy received no instructions on how to commit the killings, yet was able to carry them out, including making the phone call—a fact he described as “surprising.” On cross‑examination, defense attorney Kevin Reddington questioned Dr. Saathoff’s expertise in postpartum mental‑health treatment.

Family testimony
Several family members took the stand. Susan Clancy, mother‑in‑law, described Lindsay as a nurturing mother who had been begging for help with postpartum depression. Clancy’s own mother, Paula Musgrove, testified through tears that her daughter loved her grandchildren deeply and feared medication was “destroying her mind.”
Chaplain Sheila Cavanaugh of Brigham and Women’s Hospital recalled meeting Clancy after she was taken off a ventilator, noting that Clancy expressed relief that her children were “safe in heaven with God.”
Judicial rulings
After the defense moved for a mistrial alleging “intentional misconduct,” Judge William Sullivan denied the motion, opting instead to address the jury on the nature of an “inappropriate” comment made during testimony.
