Memphis, Tenn. – State Sen. Brent Taylor (R‑Memphis), who is seeking reelection to the Tennessee Senate and a seat in the U.S. House for the 9th Congressional District, addressed recent allegations that he sent unsolicited nude photographs.
Admission and explanation
During an interview with Action News 5, Taylor confirmed that he sent a nude photo to a woman, describing the incident as part of his past and labeling it a “youthful indiscretion.” He said the photo was sent as recently as 2021, when he was 53 years old.
“My wife is well aware of it and we have worked through it a long time ago. My God and my wife have forgiven me, and I would consider everyone else doing the same,” Taylor told the Nashville Scene.
Campaign focus
Taylor emphasized that voters should prioritize issues such as grocery prices and gas costs over personal matters. He framed his candidacy as a fight against what he called “Democrat Socialist Justin Pearson,” asserting that the election presents a clear choice between competence and chaos.
Opponent’s response
Democratic candidate Justin J. Pearson, a state representative, condemned the behavior, stating that “men of faith—let alone men who are married, in their fifties, and in public office—have no business sending unsolicited nude photos to women.” Pearson called the conduct “predatory” and urged voters to elect leaders who respect women.
Background
Taylor has served in the Tennessee Senate since 2023. In the upcoming race, he faces Pearson, as well as independent candidates Dennis Clark and Michelle Head.
The story continues to develop as the election approaches.
