A 15-year-old boy in a clown costume stabbed a 78-year-old man to death at a bus stop in East St. Louis, according to Illinois State Police. The victim, John Wesley Allen Sr., was a navy veteran and retired bus driver.
Investigation
Less than an hour before Allen’s body was discovered, a Ring camera recorded the suspect outside a home three blocks from the scene. The suspect was wearing a baggy black and red clown outfit and whispered a warning, ‘I’m looking for you,’ into the camera.
Neighbors described an alarming scene that night: someone moving between homes, peering through windows and carrying a large knife. Police are reviewing purported footage of the person in the clown costume and collecting additional surveillance video.
Victim’s Family
Allen’s family described him as a loving and loyal churchgoer who spent his life serving others. His niece, Tenia Stanford, said, ‘He was an amazing man. He was an uncle that you could talk to, you could call.’ Allen’s sister, Marie Stanford, said, ‘He’s the best brother that someone took away. I’m going to miss him.’
