DENT COUNTY, Mo. – A tragic traffic accident claimed the life of a 15‑year‑old girl from Licking on Sunday evening. The pickup truck she was riding in—a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado—overturned on Highway VV, about one‑half mile west of County Road 6620.
What happened
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle was being driven eastbound by a 16‑year‑old boy from Licking. At approximately 6:40 p.m., the driver lost control on a wet stretch of the road. The patrol report states the teen “over‑corrected,” causing the truck to veer off the left side of the highway and roll over.
Casualties and safety concerns
The young passenger was partially ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. The patrol confirmed she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. She later died from her injuries. The driver was not reported to be injured.
This incident marks Troop I’s first fatal crash for the month of November and the 37th fatality recorded by the unit in 2026.
