Taylor Farms, a company linked to a multi-state cyclospora outbreak, has faced scrutiny over its political donations to Trump-aligned groups. Social media users have drawn assumptions about how these donations may have influenced the Trump administration’s response to the outbreak.
Donations to Trump-Aligned Groups
Taylor Fresh Foods, Inc., the parent company of Taylor Farms, donated $1 million to the pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc. on March 26, 2025. This donation was made before the current cyclospora outbreak. The company has also donated to other PACs, including $100,000 to the conservative super PAC More Jobs, Less Government, and $1 million to the Republican super PAC Congressional Leadership Fund.
The FDA announced a delay in enforcing the Food Traceability Rule, which would have required more recordkeeping steps for food manufacturers, six days before the $1 million donation to MAGA Inc. The agency stated that the change would allow industry additional time to fully implement the rule’s requirements.
Response to Claims
Both Taylor Farms and the White House have denied any suggestions that the regulatory process has been compromised by political donorship. A Taylor Fresh Foods spokesperson stated that the company follows food safety standards under the Food Traceability Rule, even ahead of the updated compliance deadline.
A White House spokesperson said the Trump administration would not compromise on Americans’ health and safety. The FDA also clarified that a lab test finding cyclospora contamination in a Taylor Farms de Mexico shredded iceberg lettuce sample was a false positive, but this does not change the basis for their investigation or the epidemiological data supporting Taylor Farms’ recall.
