Tarrant County Commissioner Simmons urged to apologize to Marine veteran

Kolton Krottinger, a Navy veteran and founder of the nonprofit Anxiety Solutions of America, is demanding that Tarrant County Commissioner Alisa Simmons (D‑Precinct 2) issue a public apology to Elections Administrator Clint Ludwig. Krottinger said Simmons told Ludwig, a 20‑year Marine Corps veteran, “Don’t you ever say anything about being a Marine again,” during a Commissioners Court discussion about polling locations for the November 4, 2025 election.

Background of the exchange

The remarks were made at a court meeting where Simmons questioned Ludwig’s consistency on a proposal to postpone certain polling‑site changes. In the heated exchange she called Ludwig “not worth two damn cents” and later added, “And don’t you ever say anything about being a Marine again.” She also referenced her own son’s Marine service, telling Ludwig he was “embarrassing.”

Veteran advocate’s response

Krottinger urged Simmons to address Ludwig directly, saying, “Commissioner, your campaign promises to ‘stand up to bullies.’ I want you to explain what you meant, acknowledge his service, and apologize publicly so the veteran community can hear it.” He emphasized that Ludwig’s two‑decade Marine career included multiple deployments, including to Afghanistan.

Commissioner’s record and upcoming race

Simmons’ campaign website states she will “stand up to bullies, to corruption, and to anyone who tries to sell out the people of Tarrant County.” She is currently challenging incumbent Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare (R) in the November 3, 2026 election. The Dallas Express reached out to Simmons for comment on the incident but did not receive a response.

Community reaction

The incident has drawn attention from local veteran groups who see the remarks as disrespectful to those who have served. While some residents view the exchange as a partisan spat, others stress the importance of civility and respect for military service in public‑service settings.

What’s next?

With the upcoming county‑wide election, the issue may become a talking point for both campaigns. Voters in Precinct 2 and across Tarrant County will likely weigh the commissioner’s conduct alongside her policy positions as they head to the polls.
