On Oct. 6, Target employees, local residents, developers and elected officials gathered for a ribbon‑cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the retailer’s newest location in the Texas Heritage Marketplace development in Katy, Texas.
Largest food‑forward Target in Greater Houston
The 148,000‑square‑foot store is slated to become the largest food‑forward Target in the Greater Houston area. According to Community Impact, the new outlet is expected to generate about 200 jobs for the community.
Convenient amenities for shoppers
Shoppers at the new marketplace will find a range of on‑site services, including a Starbucks coffee shop, a CVS Pharmacy, and Target Optical. The development also includes electric‑vehicle charging stations, supporting greener transportation options for residents.
Developer perspective
Austin Alvis, president and chief development officer of NewQuest, explained that the developer purchased the land a decade ago, with construction activity accelerating over the past three years. “A big project like this, all at once, is super exciting because we just opened Lowe’s, they’re starting to have other tenants open, Whataburger open,” Alvis said. “Then we’ll have another 40 tenants open over the course of the next six months.”
Mayor highlights community values
Katy Mayor Dusty Thiele praised the project, noting the city’s blend of heritage and growth. “We’re proud of our history, our neighborhoods, our families and our small‑town spirit, but we are also a growing community that welcomes new businesses, new opportunities and new neighbors,” the mayor said.
The opening of Target’s new store underscores Katy’s continued economic development and its appeal to national retailers seeking to serve the region’s expanding population.
