FRISCO, Texas – A longtime member of the Planet Fitness on Preston Road is suing the gym after police showed her that she had been secretly recorded inside a private tanning room. The plaintiff, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, says the recordings were made by another member of the Frisco location.
Police investigation reveals hidden videos
According to the Frisco Police Department, investigators presented Doe with laptop footage that confirmed multiple videos of her in various stages of undress. Some of the recordings date back to 2024. Police have not released the identity of the suspect or indicated how many other members may have been filmed.
Lawsuit alleges franchise negligence
Doe’s lawsuit claims the franchise failed to provide a safe and private environment, despite the fact that Planet Fitness operates a nationwide chain with the resources to prevent such violations. The filing references seven prior incidents of illegal secret recordings at other Planet Fitness locations dating back to 2014, arguing that the company should have instituted stronger security measures long ago.
“I definitely thought it would be private and a safe space,” Doe said in an interview. “I was shocked, angry, and felt violated. It wasn’t just one video; there were multiple recordings in various states of dress, which is really alarming.”
Attorney demands stronger safeguards
Attorney Rogge Dunn emphasized that a large corporate chain should know better. “We’re not dealing with a mom‑and‑pop gym; we’re dealing with a nationwide chain that has the money, resources, and personnel to prevent unauthorized secret videotaping,” Dunn said. “First, warn users that this can happen. Second, implement security procedures, monitoring, and watch for suspicious activity.”
Dunn also encouraged any other victims to come forward, suggesting that additional recordings may exist.
Planet Fitness response
Planet Fitness declined to comment on specific security protocols, the timing of management’s awareness, or steps taken after the incident. The company issued a statement asserting that member safety and privacy are top priorities and that the franchise is cooperating closely with police in the ongoing investigation.
The lawsuit seeks damages for the alleged invasion of privacy and demands that the franchise adopt comprehensive security measures to protect members in private areas such as tanning rooms.
What residents should know
While the investigation continues, Frisco residents are urged to remain vigilant about personal privacy in shared facilities. If you suspect unauthorized recording or notice suspicious behavior, contact local law enforcement promptly.
