Taller Puertorriqueno, located in the Fairhill area of Northwest Kensington, Philadelphia, is hosting an exhibition called Tramando, which means to plot, scheme, or the weft of a woven. The goal of the exhibition is to weave together the community by teaching cultural textile practices.
Community Involvement
The program was structured to have at least 50% of the enrollees from the neighborhoods that Taller Puertorriqueno serves, including Norris Square, Kensington, and Fairhill. The exhibition shows what each module of the course learned and completed, starting with natural dyes and fiber spinning, followed by Mayan backstrap weaving, and ending with embroidery.
