Greene County residents of the Sycamore community will need to travel farther to handle their mail after the United States Postal Service announced the temporary closure of the local post office. The closure took effect at the end of business on Monday, according to USPS spokesperson Mark Lawrence.
Lease loss forces shutdown
Lawrence said the Postal Service lost the lease on the building located at 123 WW Railroad Road, leaving it with no viable location to continue operations. No specific timeline has been provided for when a new site might be secured and the office reopened.

Sycamore currently serves ten post office box customers and operates one carrier route that delivers to 275 addresses. While regular mail delivery to homes will proceed as usual, anyone with a post office box will need to collect their mail, including vacation mail, signature‑required items, and oversized parcels, at the Waynesburg post office.
Judy Moninger, secretary for the Morris Township administrative office in Sycamore, said residents have already begun calling to ask about the closure. “There’s a lot of certifieds that go out here because of the industry that we have here,” Moninger explained. “If they can’t get them delivered, they’re going to have to go to Waynesburg to pick the certifieds up.”
Alternative locations and community response
Moninger, who occasionally sells items on eBay, noted she will now need to travel elsewhere to ship her products. She mentioned that Graysville is roughly as close as Waynesburg, and some residents have mentioned the post office in Prosperity, which stays open later than the Graysville location.
While the USPS assures that delivery to Sycamore homes will continue without interruption, the inconvenience of having to travel to another town for box services has drawn criticism. “There’s some residents that are not real happy,” Moninger said, reflecting the frustration felt by many.
