Western Europe recorded another exceptionally hot June, and climate adaptation is becoming a major issue for tourism. Research found 81% of Europeans are adjusting travel plans because of climate change, with many seeking cooler destinations or avoiding extreme summer heat.
Summer in Switzerland
Switzerland recorded nearly 44 million overnight stays in 2025, an all-time record. About 25 million occurred during the summer season, which now accounts for roughly 60% of annual overnight stays and continues to grow.
The best response to a heatwave isn’t always finding colder weather. Sometimes it’s finding places designed to embrace summer. In Switzerland, that can mean beginning beside Lake Geneva before climbing into the Alps for mountain golf, glacier air and cool evenings—all within a few hours of each other.
Lake Geneva and Crans-Montana
Lake Geneva offers a unique summer experience with its lakeside city, where sightseeing gives way to swimming, sailboats dot the water, and families gravitate toward the shoreline. La Réserve Genève, a lakeside resort, provides an ideal location to enjoy the city’s summer activities.
Crans-Montana, on the other hand, offers a mountainous retreat with golf, mountain biking, fishing, alpine lakes, and wellness activities. The Crans Ambassador hotel provides a stunning view of the Valais Alps and easy access to the surrounding attractions.
The Swiss Travel Pass makes it easy to travel between these destinations, covering unlimited travel on Switzerland’s trains, buses, and boats, along with public transportation in more than 90 towns and cities.
