West Louisville is set to gain a new gathering place as Stephon Harbin re‑imagines his 26th and West Broadway property. After a year of running Sugar Ray’s Barbecue by day and a nightclub after dark, Harbin decided the space didn’t serve the neighborhood the way he wanted. The result is a family‑oriented arcade and entertainment center that will open its doors on Sunday, Oct. 25.
Creating a safe, fun alternative for kids
“Just a place where you could come and relax and you know that you’re safe and you don’t have to worry about your safety,” Harbin said. He hopes the venue will draw grandparents for a game of pool, children for virtual‑reality adventures, and anyone looking for a wholesome night out. The arcade will feature virtual‑reality stations, esports stations, go‑karts, inflatables and more, giving local youth a constructive way to spend their free time.
Mentorship and community investment
Harbin, who also serves as a pastor, plans to partner with local churches and community groups to provide mentorship opportunities on site. “We have to invest in them. They’re just as important as the rest of us because they are our future,” he explained. The mentorship program aims to support children who may need guidance, reinforcing the center’s mission of safety and positive influence.
Keeping dollars in the neighborhood
Harbin noted that many west‑Louisville residents travel to other parts of the city for similar entertainment options. By bringing an arcade to the corner of 26th and Broadway, he expects money to stay local, benefitting nearby businesses and encouraging further development. “As the community becomes involved and as more people begin to patronize, you know, not just for the food but for the fun, then we’re recycling the dollar,” he said.
Future expansion plans
The October 25 grand opening will include free food and giveaways for the community. Harbin envisions the site eventually expanding to fill the entire corner, adding attractions such as laser tag, a putt‑putt course and a skating rink. His long‑term goal is to create a multi‑use hub that serves families, seniors and anyone seeking a safe, enjoyable environment.
Community response
Neighbors have expressed enthusiasm for a venue that offers both recreation and a positive role‑model presence. “If they don’t have something fun and safe to do, they’ll find something illicit,” Harbin warned, underscoring the need for proactive community spaces. The project aligns with broader efforts to strengthen family life and uphold traditional values in Louisville’s neighborhoods.
With its focus on safety, mentorship and local economic impact, Sugar Ray’s new arcade promises to become a cornerstone of west Louisville, offering a peaceful alternative to the streets and a place where families can gather, play and grow together.
