Sugar Land Opens Galaxy All-Abilities Park

The city of Sugar Land has opened the Galaxy All-Abilities Park, a 1.6-acre park designed to be inclusive for individuals of all abilities. The park, located adjacent to the Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Annex at 151 Stadium Drive, features a space theme as a nod to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys.

Park Features

The park includes a wheelchair-accessible playground, interactive sensory walls featuring various textures and shapes, and covered seating and shaded rest areas.

Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers said the park represents his commitment to bringing communities together and allowing individuals of every capacity to play together and form connections. “As one of the most diverse counties in the nation, it’s essential that we honor unique differences while establishing environments and experiences where everyone can share a sense of belonging and have fun,” Meyers said.

The $1.6 million park is funded by the county’s 2020 and 2023 parks bonds, county officials previously said. Sugar Land Mayor Carol McCutcheon also commented on the park’s significance, saying it’s a place where barriers are reduced, friendships are built, and every child has the opportunity to participate and belong.

Future Plans

The county is also underway with a second all-abilities park, dubbed Super Dave’s All Abilities Park, in Fulshear. The 1.6-acre park, located at 4200 Katy Fulshear Road, is named in honor of resident David “Dave” D’Andrea, who was a founding member of Fort Bend County Municipal Utility District No. 169 in Cross Creek Ranch.
