Sugar Land-Missouri City Residents: Prepare for May 26 Runoff Elections

Residents of Sugar Land and Missouri City in Fort Bend County, Texas, are gearing up for the upcoming runoff elections scheduled for May 26. These elections follow the March 3 primaries, where no candidate secured a majority vote. Voters have the opportunity to shape local leadership by participating in these critical runoff races.

Voting Information

Fort Bend County residents can cast their votes at any of the 31 early voting locations across the county. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., providing ample time for citizens to exercise their right to vote. On election day, May 26, registered voters will have access to 67 voting locations countywide, according to the county’s election website.

To vote, residents must bring one of seven forms of acceptable identification, such as a Texas driver’s license, personal ID card, handgun license, military ID card, or U.S. passport, as outlined by the Texas Secretary of State’s website.

What’s on the Ballot

The runoff elections in Texas are organized by political party. Voters who participated in the Republican primary are eligible to vote in the Republican runoff, while those who voted in the Democratic primary can participate in the Democratic runoff. Individuals who did not vote in the March primaries or participate in a third-party nominating convention can choose to vote in either party’s runoff.

Several important local and U.S. House seats are up for grabs, including the Fort Bend County judge Democratic primary. Candidates in this race include Dexter L. McCoy, Rachelle Carter, Sonya Jones, Maria T. Jackson, Jeffrey L. Boney, Sara Khan, Brittanye Lashay Morris, April Jones, Ken Mathews, Adam Schoof, Alexander Hale, Tina Cohen, Christian Menefee, and Al Green.

Looking Ahead

Winners of the May 26 runoff elections will advance to the general elections on November 3, with early voting scheduled from October 19 to 30. These elections present a vital opportunity for residents to influence the future direction of their community and ensure their voices are heard in the democratic process.
