Strong thunderstorms ripped through Connecticut on the Fourth of July, causing damage in multiple towns. As of 10 p.m., nearly 90,000 customers were without power, according to Eversource. Some of the towns and cities experiencing the most outages were Harwinton, Montville, New Britain, New Fairfield, and Winchester.
United Illuminating reported that as of 9:45 p.m., over 8,500 customers were also without power. The weather also delayed some fireworks displays, including New Haven, where the show was delayed by 45 minutes while waiting for the weather to pass.
The storms caused trees to fall in several towns and cities and even on major roadways. The Department of Transportation reported that trees had fallen on Interstate 84 in Southington between exits 32 and 33, causing the right and center lanes to be closed.
