State officials in Louisiana are taking action against the Fairmont Apartments in downtown Shreveport after reports exposed deplorable living conditions at the facility. The Louisiana Housing Corporation is stepping up enforcement of conditions at the apartment complex.
Residents at the complex reported issues including stained carpets, damaged walls, cockroach infestations, and unreliable air conditioning. Questionable odors were also noted throughout the building, despite a $21 million renovation project completed last year.
The owners of the complex attributed the current challenges to a homeless encampment located next to the property. The Louisiana Housing Corporation has required the developer, Midland Residence, to bring the building into compliance and make all necessary improvements.
