Stage Center is putting the finishing touches on its production of Disney’s Frozen ahead of opening night Thursday at the Marjorie Lyons Playhouse on Centenary College’s campus in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The Story
The musical, which runs for five performances over four days, tells the story of sisters Anna and Elsa as they navigate Elsa’s magical ability to create ice and discover the power of family.
During a recent rehearsal, choreographer Nhan Ho guided the cast through its final preparations, making sure staging and movement were polished before opening night.
The production features several songs from the popular Disney musical, including ‘Let It Go.’ Actress Aubrey Salazar belted out a few lines from that classic tune, while actress Mia Kiihnl sang a sample from her favorite part as Princess Anna.
Actor Harrison Starrett plays Olaf, the cheerful snowman who loves warm hugs. In addition to acting, Starrett also serves as Olaf’s puppeteer.
Themes and Performances
Director and cast members said the story’s central theme is the relationship between Anna and Elsa rather than a traditional fairy tale romance.
‘It’s a beautiful story because it’s not about a prince saving a princess,’ director Jared Watson said. ‘It’s about these sisters finding each other and reconnecting as a family, and that being what solves all the problems that are going on in their community.’
Frozen will be performed Thursday through Sunday at the Marjorie Lyons Playhouse. Evening performances are scheduled Thursday through Saturday, with matinees on Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets start at $24. More information is available through Stage Center.
