Springfield Township in Holland, Ohio, is gearing up for its annual summer celebrations, including the Freedom and Strawberry Festivals, with a strong emphasis on safety. With thousands expected to attend, local officials are prioritizing security to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
Enhanced Security Measures
In response to recent security concerns nationwide, Springfield Township has been preparing for months to bolster safety at these events. Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Sauder announced that ten uniformed officers will be present throughout the Freedom Celebration on June 27th. These officers will be equipped to handle any law enforcement issues that may arise, with some carrying long guns as a precautionary measure.
Sauder emphasized the importance of these preparations, citing recent bomb threats in schools and other public places as a catalyst for the heightened security measures. The township will also deploy a mobile command center and utilize aerial monitoring to ensure comprehensive coverage.
Fire Department Preparedness
The fire department is also playing a crucial role in the safety plan. A medic unit will be stationed at Homecoming Park, ready to respond to any medical emergencies. Sauder reassured the community that these measures are precautionary, with no expectation of incidents occurring.
Community Reassurance
Springfield Township Administrator Andy Glenn highlighted the growth of these events over the years and the importance of being prepared. “These plans are in place; we hope we never have to use them, but should an event happen, we will be prepared to react quickly,” Glenn stated.
The Holland Strawberry Festival will take place from June 17-21 at Homecoming Park, followed by the Freedom Celebration on June 27, featuring live music, a 5K run, and fireworks. Later in the summer, the Wicked Wheels Car Fest is scheduled for August 5.
Officials are committed to ensuring that safety and enjoyment go hand in hand, allowing attendees to participate in the festivities without concern for their well-being.
