The Springfield Fire Department has suspended large-scale search operations following a tragic drowning incident near the Lake Springfield dam on Sunday. One victim, 40-year-old Taylor Stawny, remains missing and is presumed dead.
Incident Details
Taylor Stawny and her daughters Aurelie (12), Andrea (19), and Sofie (17) Stawny were on the lake in a kayak with inflatables tied to the vessel when they went over the dam/spillway. Firefighters were able to rescue Aurelie from the rushing water, which was fueled by a weekend of heavy rain. The bodies of Andrea and Sofie were recovered in the following days.
Authorities used all available resources to search for the missing victim, including members of the Springfield Fire Department, Springfield Police Department, Branson Fire-Rescue, and Missouri State Highway Patrol. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family pay for funeral expenses.
