A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket’s upper stage crashed into the moon at 5,000 mph. The rocket launched in January last year, carrying Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost lunar lander. The upper stage separated and was sent into a looping orbit between Earth and the moon, but the trajectory changed and pointed it toward the lunar surface.

NASA confirmed the impact, but for now, we’ll have to wait to see it. The impact was not visible to the naked eye or even through a basic telescope, but NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) might be able to capture it.
Research Chemist Ken Kremer said, ‘We should expect to see pictures from NASA’s LRO, which was launched about 15 years ago.’ He added that the LRO will take new pictures, and we’ll get to see how big that crater is.
