Travelers in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region now have a new travel option with the launch of Southwest Airlines’ nonstop flight to Austin, Texas. This inaugural flight, which took off on June 4, marks a significant expansion in Southwest’s service from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG).
Enhanced Travel Connections
Passengers on the first flight were greeted with Southwest-branded cookies, a custom theme song, and the chance to win seven days of free parking at CVG. Noel Curry, CVG station manager for Southwest, expressed excitement about introducing the airline’s customer base to Texas and the connections available through Austin to destinations further west.
Southwest Airlines’ addition of the Austin route is part of a broader expansion, increasing its summer schedule at CVG by more than 40 percent compared to the previous year. This growth includes both flight volume and seat capacity, demonstrating the airline’s commitment to the region.
A Growing Hub
Larry Krauter, CEO of CVG, highlighted the significance of the new route, noting that it reflects the demand and vitality of the local market. He emphasized the similarities between Austin and Cincinnati as growing tech hubs and vibrant cultural centers, making the new route a valuable addition to the airport’s offerings.
With the introduction of this daily service to Austin, CVG now offers over 55 nonstop destinations through 14 airlines and tour operators, enhancing travel options for the community.
