South Texas and El Paso: Local News, Weather and Community Alerts

TODAY’S FORECAST — Expect a mix of sun and clouds across the South Texas and El Paso region with conditions changing through the day. Mornings will start relatively mild with limited cloud cover, but cloudiness is likely to increase by midday. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and into the evening, especially where the atmosphere becomes more unstable.

Rain chances are not uniform across the area. Some communities may remain dry for much of the day, while others could see brief, heavier downpours. Overall probabilities rise later in the afternoon into early evening; isolated storms could produce brief pockets of heavy rainfall, small hail, and brief gusty winds. Keep an eye on local radar if you have plans later in the day.

Temperatures will trend upward through the morning and into the afternoon. Expect morning readings in the 60s to low 70s, with afternoon highs generally reaching the mid-70s to upper 80s depending on location and elevation. Coastal and higher-elevation areas will typically be a few degrees cooler than inland valleys and plains. Skies will gradually clear after sunset, bringing a cooler night.

Wind will be a notable factor at times. Southerly to southeasterly breezes are expected through much of the day, commonly around 10 to 20 mph with gusts stronger in exposed locations and across the plain. These gusts can make outdoor items more likely to shift and can briefly intensify any storm activity that moves through.

Because of the chance for sudden downpours and gusty winds, it’s a good idea to bring a light rain jacket or umbrella if you’ll be outdoors this afternoon and evening. Secure lightweight outdoor items and be prepared for reduced visibility and slick roads if heavy rain moves through. If you have outdoor plans, consider shifting activities earlier in the day when conditions should be more stable.

Looking ahead, tonight will become partly cloudy and a bit cooler, with lingering isolated showers possible before most areas dry out. A similar pattern — warm days with scattered afternoon storms — is likely to continue over the next couple of days. Check local forecasts and radar updates for the latest timing and any short-term advisories that could affect your neighborhood.
