South Dakota will receive $410,946.38 as the state’s share in a $45 million, 46-state settlement with California-based Block Inc, Attorney General Marty Jackley announced in a July 8 press release. The settlement resolves allegations that Block Inc. misled consumers about the safety of Cash App, a peer-to-peer payment platform, and failed to protect users from fraud.
“Block, Inc. did not provide the fraud protection it promised and required by law,” Attorney General Jackley stated in the news release. “Consumers were left vulnerable to fraud, and the company failed to help consumers when fraud occurred.”
