The 21-year-old singer, whose legal name is David Burke, is accused of killing the girl after she threatened to expose their relationship and damage his career as a rising music star.

Testimony included text messages between the singer and Celeste that prosecutors say show a sexual relationship with the victim, who was just 13 at the time. The messages also discussed Celeste’s abortion and her consideration of having children in the future.

The court heard discussion of chainsaws and a burn box the singer allegedly purchased under different aliases. A deputy medical examiner described the girl’s injuries, including two puncture wounds to the chest and abdomen that caused her death.

The singer’s defense attorneys worked to challenge the evidence and its collection, providing a window into what could become part of his defense strategy if the case goes to trial.

Celeste’s parents were present in court when gruesome evidence photos were shown, including images of her dismembered body. The family’s civil attorney said the parents were there to show support for Celeste.
