The Shreveport Police Department is evaluating drone response systems to enhance officer safety and provide faster situational awareness during emergency calls.

City leaders, including the mayor and police administration, recently witnessed a demonstration of one company’s drone technology. The department has been meeting with drone vendors to assess systems that can be dispatched to calls for service, providing aerial views to responding officers.
According to Cpl. Chris Bordelon, the department’s public information officer, the live video feed from drones can help officers assess the scene before arriving, improve safety, collect evidence, and track suspects when necessary.
The technology is expected to cost around $100,000 annually, and the systems must be operated by FAA-licensed personnel. The drones will be subject to the same airspace restrictions as privately operated drones.
The current demonstrations aim to showcase the technology’s capabilities and provide city leaders with information to consider whether to move forward with the program.
