Providence House, a Shreveport nonprofit, is seeking to rezone a storage facility adjacent to its campus to expand housing for homeless families. The proposed redevelopment would include a four-story apartment building and four single-family homes.
Expansion Plans
The expansion project would help address the growing need for housing services in Shreveport. According to Executive Director Sharpel Welch, the current facility is operating at full capacity, with 73 families on the waiting list.
The project is supported by a Bloomberg-funded initiative and aims to help families move from emergency shelter to permanent housing and eventual homeownership. The Shreveport City Council will introduce the rezoning legislation for the first time at its meeting, with a final vote scheduled for July 14.
