Shreveport Celebrates Cross Lake Centennial

The City of Shreveport is inviting the community to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Cross Lake with a free outdoor movie, food trucks, and a fireworks show on Friday night.

Celebration Details

The evening will kick off with a news conference at 7 p.m. at Valencia on Cross Lake, located at 6100 S. Lakeshore Drive. City leaders will commemorate the lake’s century of service as the primary drinking water source for Shreveport.

A free outdoor showing of the movie ‘National Treasure’ will take place at Ford Park, starting at 7 p.m. Food trucks will be on-site, and attendees can bring lawn chairs and blankets or watch from their vehicles. Movie audio will broadcast on FM 78.9.

A fireworks show will launch over Cross Lake at 9:30 p.m., celebrating both the centennial of the lake and the 250th anniversary of America. Ford Park will serve as a primary viewing location.

Cross Lake’s Significance

Cross Lake is an 8,575-acre man-made reservoir spanning roughly 13.4 square miles. In addition to supplying drinking water, it serves as a local recreational site for boating, fishing, and hunting.

‘Cross Lake is more than just a body of water—it is the heart of our water system and a symbol of foresight, investment, and stewardship,’ said Interim Director of Water & Sewerage Brandon R. Snead. ‘For 100 years, this lake has made it possible for our residents to turn on their taps with confidence.’

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux also noted the significance of the milestone. ‘Cross Lake has served as the lifeline of Shreveport for a full century,’ Arceneaux said. ‘It supports our homes, our businesses, and our families, while also providing a beautiful place for recreation and reflection.’
