The Shreveport-Bossier City area marked a truly historic Fourth of July weekend, joining communities across the nation in celebrating America’s 250th birthday with a full slate of festivities — and adding a few homegrown milestones of its own.
Downtown Shreveport served as the heart of the celebration, where residents gathered for music, fireworks, and the KTBS 3 Freedom Fest, which honored the America 250 milestone. The party extended to Cross Lake, where fireworks lit up the sky to mark yet another anniversary — the centennial of Cross Lake itself, a beloved Shreveport landmark turning 100 years old this year. The dual celebration made for an especially meaningful evening on the waterfront.
Adding a deeply moving chapter to the weekend’s festivities, new Americans took their oath of citizenship at the historic Strand Theatre in Shreveport, choosing the eve of Independence Day as the moment to officially join the American family. It was a reminder of what the holiday is truly about.
The patriotic spirit also hit the pavement, as the Annual Firecracker 5K drew dozens of runners to Shreveport, continuing a beloved Independence Day tradition for the community.
From fireworks over Cross Lake to fresh citizens raising their right hands at the Strand, Shreveport and Bossier City showed once again that when it comes to celebrating America, this corner of northwest Louisiana knows how to do it right.
